Lamine Yamal wins the Golden Boy award 2024!
So then it has finally been announced, the winner of the prestigious Golden Boy award 2024 winner is Barcelona’s and Spain’s Lamine Yamal. After his fantastic Euro 2024 rumours already started popping up that Yamal would win the award, and now we finally know for certain. Yamal is the youngest winner in history as he today is 17 years and 137 days old, and thus being the first winner to be under 18 years old when winning it. On December the 16th Yamal will officially receive the award on a ceremony held by Tuttosport in Turin, Italy.
This was the third winner from FC Barcelona in the last three years, after Pedri won it 2021 and Gavi 2022, and the forth from Barcelona in total as Lionel Messi won in 2005.
Yamal is the fifth Spanish player to win the Golden Boy award, besides already mentioned Pedri and Gavi, Isco won it in 2012 (while playing for Málaga) and Cesc Fàbregas was the winner 2006 (playing for Arsenal at the time).
Golden Girl winner is Barcelona's Vicky López
It can also be mentioned that the Golden Girl award, the equivalent award for girls, was also won by a Barcelona player. The winner of the third edition of the Golden Girl award was the Spanish/Nigerian midfielder Vicky López.
