Lamine Yamal has not won the Golden Boy Award 2024 (yet at least)
In the last few days there has been some reports on various websites that Lamine Yamal has already won the Golden Boy Award 2024. That is simply not correct, at least not officially. It is very possible that behind the scenes the ones responsible feel certain that he is going to to win, but actually it is impossible for someone to know for sure. The reason is that there is still a vote involved and who gets the price is not something that one or few people alone decide. You can read more about how the award is decided here.
Yamal is the favourite though
So, there is nothing decided yet for sure but it is true that Lamine Yamal is the clear favourite to win it, especially after his fantastic performance in the Euro this summer. His closest contenders are players like Portuguese João Neves, that Paris Saint-Germain recently bought over from Benfica for a reported fee around 60 million euro, and Argentinian Alejandro Garnacho who plays for Manchester United. But to be honest it is not very likely that they will outcompete Yamal, unless any of them have a magical start of the season and Yamal underperforms drastically.
If Yamal would win the award, he will be the youngest winner ever, by far. Currently his teammate Gavi holds the record, being 18 years and 77 days when he received it, and Yamal would be well below 18.
So when will we know who the Golden Boy award winner 2024 is?
The award 2024 is planned to be officially annonced out on the 4th of December at an event in Turin. That is when the winner is officially announced, but it is very possible that the winner’s name will be leaked earlier, but that would be maybe a few days before the award is announced at earliest.
